Hey dude, I hope you enjoy your special day. As you requested I'm doing a little blog update for ya. Here's what I've been up to lately.

Michael and I got a little dangerous and had our selves a nerf war. Don't worry, I won, I always do:)

I've gotten a little messy....

My friends Sydney and Sydney (same name two different girls) came down from Sac to hang out for a couple of days and we
had a BLAST!!! We went to a club, hung out at Zuma Beach,
made food, went shopping, had sleep overs, the whole nine:)

I went to the Getty Center and meet some new friends. They were kind enough to let me pose with them. Let me just mention, the one where my hand looks a little out of place.... It was a combination of bad timing and a bad camera angle. After all, I just meet the girl!!!!!! haha

But mostly, I've just been having fun being a kid!!!!

Back in Session

Well, once again things are off to a great start and falling in to place as I start my second semester at CSUN. I have successfully added all four Deaf Studies classes that I wanted this semester and I am thrilled!!!! I'm finally doing it, this is why I’m here to take Deaf Studies courses and learn, learn, learn!!! I'm ONLY taking 14units this time around, I wised up after the 18unit massacre last semester:)!!! Funny side note, last semester I was talking to a friend and I told him I was taking 18units. His response was, "ya know, you have to be pretty intelligent to take that many units and pass the classes but at the same time you have to be pretty dumb to sign up for all those classes." We'll I think if I learned anything at all last semester it was, DON'T TAKE 18UNITS AGAIN!!!!:)

SCHOOL IS OUT!!!

The madness is over!!! I successfully completed 18units last Wednesday night as I handed in my last final exam. I am so happy it is over, and can't wait to start enjoying the Christmas break!!! I started cleaning out my desk on Thursday, just throwing away old papers from the beginning of the semester and stuff, when I came upon all of the flash cards I had made throughout the semester for my previous exams. Now, incase you didn't know, I am a flash card addict. I can't study any other way, and I make a lot of them so that I am sure to have ALL the information memorized for the test. I decided to stack them all up to measure how much stuff I had actually memorized over the entire semester. The results were shocking. Whatever the grades turn out to be, you can't say I didn't try!!! hahaha

It's Christmas Time in the City

The Christmas season is upon us and just because I'm a college student living in an apartment, doesn't mean I can't get festive:) The girls and I decorated our place, and I must say it looks pretty dang good. We put lights on the balcony and above the slider door. Keeping with the light theme, we decorated the kitchen ceiling

Libby and Tela came up with the cute idea of making one of our doors look like a huge present. So we covered it in wrapping paper and stuck a huge bow on it!! It looks amazing!!!

The best part for me was, MAKING MY FIRST STALKING!!! I have never had a Christmas stalking before, because my family always uses wooden Dutch shoes. This year I changed things up a bit and joined the roomies in decorating our own stalkings with puff paints. I did a pretty good job for my first time if I might say so myself!!!
I totally love the Holidays and the Christams spirit that seems to be so alive every where I go:) I think that's what I love most about Christmas. Everyone's additude seems to change for the better and we all look for ways to help one another. The Christmas season brings so many oppertunities to serve and I LOVE IT!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! LOVE YOU ALL!!!

So it was my Grandma's Birthday right before Thanksgiving, and I, being the awesome granddaughter that I am, made her a delicious birthday cake!!! That night we both were pretty full from dinner so we only had a little slice, but I hear it was devoured by the family during Thanksgiving!!! Can't say I didn't warn you Betty Crocker. Watch out you got competition now:) hahaha

Honors

Just wanted to let you all know that I was recently asked to join two honors societies due to my GPA and academic achievements. Today I accepted both invitations and am a member of the Golden Key International Honors Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha Pi. My hope in joining these societies is greater access to scholarship opportunities!!! I know that I couldn't have made it to this point with out every ones support and encouragement!!! Thank you and thank you for sharing in my accomplishments!!!

Embarrassing Moment

Today I was on my way to institute as I usually do every Monday morning. I was waiting for the elevator so I could go down to the parking garage and get into my car. When the elevator opened there was a cute guy standing there and I though to my self, "hmmm he's cute," but I hadn't said anything out loud. We both got out of the elevator at the parking garage, but he stopped to talk to someone so I just kept on going to my car. Well, I got in and was whistling some random tune. Well my windows were down and right as he walked by the notes of my random song started to sound like a cat call, you know "woho". He totally looked at me funny. I panicked and tried to recover, but that just made things worse. I guess whistling louder to emphasize that u were JUST whistling and not trying to hit on someone, does not make you appear any more normal. At this point I'm sitting in my car whistling really loud and watching this guys expression just get more confused. I quickly started my car to make my escape. Oh, did I forget to mention that in my haste, I almost killed my car by letting the clutch out to fast!!! So NOT helping the situation, I was so embarrassed!! I just hope I don't run into this guy on the elevator again or anywhere for that matter. AHHH!!!

Baby Austin!!!

On November 4th 2008, my third nephew, Austin Robert Lawrence, arrived at 9:39am. He weighed in at 9lbs 6oz (poor Nic) and measured up to be 20 1/2 inches long!!! He is such a cute kid and there is something really special and different about him. We are so blessed, as a family, to have such a sweet new spirit join us. Here are some pictures of Austin:

Re-Cap of the Month

So I have clearly been slacking on the blogging!!! Nicolette, without fail has reminded me several times that I need to work on that (thanks Nic, sometimes I just need a little push). So since it has been close to a month since I last posted something, I’ll do a quick overview to catch you all up.

One morning, I was doing my normal routine of showering and getting ready for the day. I was blow drying my hair and all of the sudden there was smoke and flames coming out of my hair dryer. Initially I freaked out, I probably screamed a little, but I was able to get it together and turn the hair dryer off... right before I through it!! I don’t really know why or how it happened, but I can for sure tell you that I have not used that thing since!!! That could have been disastrous!! I now have the amazing, top of the line Vidal Sassoon hair dryer, from Wal-Mart!!! Quality baby, gotta love it!!!

The roommates and I like to get creative and make fun stuff to eat. One day, my roommate Libby decided to make an amazingly delicious strawberry pie!!! Oh it was great!!! We all convinced her to make another one, so the next weekend we had strawberry pie again!!! Oh the college life, it is good to me.

I know you all heard about the fires that were here in my area two weeks ago. The smoke was so bad and yucky, we all just stayed inside. Well, what are four fun girls to do when you cant leave the apartment??? The answer would be make smores, play Catch Phrase, and Hide and Go Seek!!! We had a blast, it was a great bonding moment!! I won the prize of best hiding place, after all, who thinks to look on top of the fridge??? It was pretty funny! I guess it pays to be skinny.

Last weekend was supper fun because my friends Lisalee and Ryann came to LA!! I was so excited to see them and I was able to hang out with them both, on Friday and Saturday. I was able to meet their family and celebrate all the October Birthdays with them!!! The family is so nice and welcoming, it was awesome!!! I miss Lisalee and Ryann so much, It was really great to be with them for the weekend!!!

This weekend was great too because I had another visitor. My friend Michael, who just got accepted to CSUN (so happy for him and supper excited for myself too!!!) was here to check out the school and meet with the counselor. I helped him find the building his interview was in and then I showed him around campus on Friday. Saturday night we got together and explored Hollywood Blvd, The Walk of Fame, and Grumman’s Chinese Theater!! We had so much fun and I can’t wait for him to move here in the Spring! We will have a blast going through the interpreting program together and we are scheduled to graduate at the same time. So mark you calendars, two years from now you’ll be watching us walk in cap and gown.

Speaking of school, things are going well. As far as I know I still have A’s in all of my classes. We will see if that changes after these next two weeks. It’s going to be a slaughter!!! I have so many tests and papers due, its not even funny. Im still working hard though and giving my best and that’s all I can ask of myself!!! I am still loving the campus and the community here and I am growing so much!!

Well, that pretty much covers all the high points of my month. I’m coming home in a week and a half to see my sister and be there for the arrival of little Austin!!! Ahhhh, I’m so excited I can’t wait!!! On top of getting a new nephew to spoil, I get to hang out with Ty and Tan too, I miss my buddies soooooo much, I am counting the day’s until I see their adorable faces again!!!

I am so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family. Thank you all for your support and prayers through both the happy and sad bumps in the road. Sorry, I haven’t been very good about blogging, I’ve just been slammed with school and the social life! I’ll try and do better though, so keep checking for current updates!! I love you all so much!!!!

I DID IT!!!

So the semester is well under way and I have had my first two exams! Want to know what I got???

You guest it, "A"!!!!!

Both exams received A's, I am so relived. I was really nervous going into the tests because I had a busy weekend and didn't feel prepared. I was running on no sleep, my emotions were high, and I was just envisioning a big "F" scrawled across the top of my papers. It was not good. As the first test was handed to me I was trying to hold back some tears, because at that moment all I wanted to do was put my head on my desk, cry, and go to sleep!!! I quickly pulled it together and said a quiet prayer. I adjusted my thinking from the negative to the positive and said to my self, "You can do this, you know this stuff" as I turned over the test and the teacher said, BEGIN. By the end of class the tests were graded and the teacher was calling out the results by saying the persons initials followed by their score. I was listening so intently, finally I hear "DD... 20". My heart sank, I knew I wasn't 100% solid on the info but I didn't feel that I had done that poorly on the exam. I was just beside myself and right as the tears were starting to fall, I hear the teacher call out "the FEMALE DD... 45." I sat up right away, I couldn't believe it, that was me, I got an A!!!! (The test was worth 50 points, so I got 45 out of 50). The first score that I had heard, belonged to a guy in the class who also had the initials DD. I took a deep breath and relaxed a little. The second test was even better. I zoomed through it with confidence!!! Im so grateful for my relationship with my Heavenly Father. He never ceases to be with me and bless me in times of need. Two tests down and a heck of a lot more to go!!! Lets hope I can keep the A's coming :)

Getting a Little Crafty

The walls in my room are a little plain, probably because I haven't made the effort to put anything on them. BUT that has changed. Yesterday I decided to make a collage of all my friends and family. I went to Joann's and got all my supplies to make one of those picture boards.

Yes that's right, I made this all by myself!!! I just got a cork board, ribbon, upholstery tacks, and put it all together:)

Well, as cute as this is I couldn't just hang that on my wall. I had to put all my fun pictures on it!!! I have had several comments from roommates and friends that have seen it as to how cute my family is and how much fun my friends and I are having in these pictures. I give this endeavor an A+ ( would you really expect anything else? hahaha)

I had more pictures then I could fit on this board so I might have to make another, but I think I got everyone on here (except for mom because she is anti-picture). If you have a pic you want me to put on my wall then send it on over, I would love to have your faces and memorable moments grace my walls. Love you all!!! Thanks for filling my life with so many great adventures and memories :) I love looking at my pictures and remembering the fun times I have had with all my friends and family:)!!!

School Update

Things are going GREAT, here at CSUN!!! I am loving it!!! I can't take credit for it though, my Heavenly Father has been with me every step of the way. I have been so blessed, I now have two Deaf Studies classes, something I thought couldn't or wouldn't happen this semester. Through the power of prayer, the Lord has blessed me with a wonderful tutor who is so nice and super helpful. My roommates, although still getting to know them, are really fun and there doesn't seem to be any potential problems with them. I love living so close to my Grandma and being able to go and visit her whenever my little heart desires. She is so great!!! I hope the Lord keeps blessing me with good experiences though, I'm in for one heck of a semester. I have 6 classes totaling out at 18 units, which is the maximum amount any student can take. I think I can handle it, but I'm gunna have to work at it. That's what I do best though so don't get to concerned :)

TRYING To Find The Martha Stewart Within

The roommates are out of town this weekend so I decided to have a little fun. I wanted to try and COOK!!! I know, shocking!!! I was going for something simple (didn't want to tax my self to much on my first try) but at the same time was aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I took a quick look in the fridge and spotted my tortillas, PERFECTO!!! Tacos anyone?? Muy delicioso!!! I cranked up the tunes, took a moment to summon the powers of the Holy Trinity (Martha, Rachel, and Paula) then started to create my masterpiece.

Wellllll..... I don't know if it would make Martha proud, but my tummy didn't have any objections ;)

Considering the fact that nothing caught on fire and that my kitchen is still intact, I would say that I had a pretty successful night!!!

Notice there is no step by step instructions on how I made this, 1) because I know that no one could replicate this and wouldn't want to make anyone feel inadequate, 2) because the simplicity of it would steel my thunder:) However, I'd like to take a minute and draw your attention to the abundance of veggies which are on that plate, beautiful and delicious (I've been working on eating well balanced meals).

The fiesta lasted all night long and I hope to have many more fun experiences... I'm becoming so domestic. Tomorrow I might try baking something, watch out Betty Crocker, your next!!!

Life's a Beach!!

I had my first So. Cal beach experience today with my roomies!!! It was a lot of fun. We played in the waves and watched the seagulls devour some guys chips after he had left them unattended along with the rest of his belongings. :( Hope he wasn't too hungry when he returned :) We stayed and played for about two hours (because that's how much time we had on the parking meter). I was really happy when we got back to the car because it seemed that I had only acquired a slight red glow to my face, neck, and arms, which could potentially turn into a tan. However, after I had returned home and changed into some pants, I started to feel my legs itch. Then they started to feel realllly warm like they were on fire or I had a rash or something. I didn't pay much attention to it because by this time I was in a store shopping for some nic naks and I couldn't do anything about it. I had found some cute pants in the store so I went to try them on in the dressing room. That is when I discovered the source of my pain.... BRIGHT RED SUNBURNED LEGS!!!!

The pictures don't do it justice, but let me assure you, IT BURNS!!!! I have never been this red in my life!! Autumn can attest, this whole summer I have been outside working in the yard and my legs have never gotten any color. Well, they have plenty of color now!!!!

Don't be alarmed, that's as high as the shorts go :)

The worst part about the sun burn is, I have to go to my new ward in the morning and I am going to look silly!!!! Better wear a really long skirt :)

Mommy help me, it huwts!!! :( I hope that this thing goes away by morning like most of my sunburns do. I DO NOT however, wish that this turns into a tan because I only got burned on the insides of my legs, that just wouldn't look right haha:) I'll keep ya all posted on the burn status.

A Note To My Mother:
Yes mom, next time I will wear sunscreen and re-apply frequently. I know, I know... "I told you so" :)

Bed Adventure, UGH!!!

I DID IT!!!! I found a bed and I got it all set up :) Kind of a funny story though. As most of you know, at times I can get, what my mom call's "tunnel vision" or over focused on one thing. Weeellllll... that kind of happened as I was trying to find a bed for my new apartment. I had a lot to do, as everyone does when they first move, and I totally got stuck on this bed thing. I was stressing out!!! Luckily my family came to the rescue. My Mom called me and helped me get an idea on prices. My Pop called his buddies and asked if they would be willing to assist me in delivering the bed to my apartment. My Grandma took me to Ikea and helped me decide on the bed I ended up with, and guess what... it's PERFECT!!! I get to store a whole bunch of stuff underneath and it will be easy to disassemble for when I move in the future. Thank you to all that helped me with this seemingly, mountain of a task!!! Also, a huge shout out to my friends who have been giving me lots of love and support as I get started out here. You are all wonderful and bless my life in countless ways!!! Love you all sooooo much!!!!

p.s. The stuff at the end of my bed in the picture is not overflow from storage. That stuff goes in my desk that has not yet been delivered!! Just wanting to clarify :)
